We understand making the decision to get a breast augmentation is both exciting and overwhelming. When preparing for breast augmentation, our patients want to know exactly what they’re going to experience during their recovery period and how to properly prepare. We broke things down for you and gave you Dr. Breister Ghosh’s top breast augmentation recovery tips, so you can get a better idea of what you can expect following the big day.
24 Hours After Your Breast Augmentation
Immediately following your breast augmentation, you’re likely going to feel groggy from your anesthesia. Dr. Breister Ghosh will fit you with a surgical bra that needs to be worn throughout your recovery to ensure healthy healing. Once a family member or loved one has taken you home, you’ll likely begin to experience the tenderness, swelling, and bruising around your breasts. We strongly encourage you to take pain relieving medication as directed by Dr. Breister Ghosh diligently at this time and rest as much as possible.
Weeks 1 and 2 of Breast Augmentation Recovery
During your first two weeks of recovery, you’ll begin to notice a drastic difference in your level of discomfort. While you still will feel mild pain and swelling at this point, returning to most of your regular daily activities may begin to feel easier. While you will start regaining your strength, we still urge you to limit your strenuous activities during this time. Your breasts will also start settling into position as your swelling reduces. We may suggest you gently massage your breast tissue to help this process along.
Weeks 3 and 4 of Breast Augmentation Recovery
At this point in recovery, most of our patients feel nearly back to normal. Swelling and bruising around your breasts should fade significantly at this point, but mild bruising and tenderness are still to be expected. While at this time you may feel ready to jump back into your daily routine, we still suggest you keep all your physical activity to a minimum. We also strongly encourage patients to keep wearing their surgical bras to further reduce any lingering swelling and support the breasts.
Weeks 5 and 6 of Breast Augmentation Recovery
After six weeks of breast augmentation recovery, most of our patients feel ready to take on the world. At this time your breasts should look and feel natural, and you should feel comfortable returning to your normal daily activities. If you’re returning to an active lifestyle, we encourage you to ease back into your regular exercise routine. While you may stop wearing your surgical bra after six to eight weeks, we still encourage our patients to wear supportive bras throughout the day to keep the breasts perky and youthful.
Dr. Breister Ghosh’s Breast Augmentation Recovery Tips
Over the years, Dr. Breister Ghosh has found a few helpful tricks to ensure patients have an easy breezy breast augmentation recovery. Consider the following when preparing for your breast augmentation:
- Schedule some hair appointments. Lifting your arms above your head following breast augmentation may be difficult for a few weeks. Scheduling an appointment at your favorite salon for a wash and blow dry can help you feel refreshed throughout your recovery.
- Keep essentials at your bedside. Put a basket by your bed or wherever you spend the most of your time resting and fill it with your recovery essentials, like pain management medications, gauze pads, extra water bottles, and more.
- Recruit a buddy for your recovery. Getting around the house is going to be difficult during your first two weeks of breast augmentation recovery. We recommend having a best friend, family member, or significant other help you prepare meals or shower during this time.
