What is Brachioplasty (Arm Lift)?
After dramatic weight loss or as part of the natural aging process, you may have found you have been left with loose, excess skin on your upper arm area. Not only can this excess skin, often called "bat wings," make wearing short sleeve shirts or tank tops difficult, but some of our patients may develop rashes under the arms. While weight lifting and arm exercises will tone the underlying muscles of the arm, no amount of exercise will get rid of this excess skin. This is where brachioplasty steps in. Brachioplasty is a surgical cosmetic procedure that removes excess skin around the upper arms to provide patients with a more sleek and toned appearance. If you're concerned about the look of your upper arms, we encourage you to come in and talk to Dr. Breister Ghosh about whether brachioplasty, also known as an arm lift, is right for you.
What are the Benefits of Brachioplasty (Arm Lift)?
There are many benefits of receiving an arm lift with Dr. Breister Ghosh and her medical team, including:
- Removes excess skin from around the upper arms
- Can be performed in conjunction with other body contouring procedures like liposuction
- Improves the comfort and fit of clothes
- Boosts overall confidence
How is Brachioplasty (Arm Lift) Performed?
There are many variations of a brachioplasty, and Dr. Breister Ghosh will discuss your options with you during your one-on-one consultation. In general, an arm lift consists of removing excess skin and fat from the upper arm area. The most common arm lift technique Dr. Breister Ghohs uses involves an incision from the armpit area down to the elbow. In some cases, this incision must extend slightly beyond the elbow to achieve your desired result. Another approach to an arm lift involves a horizontal incision in the armpit area. This technique is typically reserved for patients who have a very mild degree of loose skin around their arms. The entirety of your arm lift procedure may take approximately 3 hours to complete.
What Can I Expect After My Brachioplasty (Arm Lift)?
After your arm lift, your arms will be wrapped with a gentle compression garment to help reduce swelling. This compression garment may be required to wear for as long as necessary to reduce occurrences of swelling. We also suggest elevating your arms as much as possible to reduce swelling and promote healthy blood flow. Patients should take a minimum of 2 to 3 weeks off work; however, Dr. Breister Ghosh may recommend a longer time off work depending on the physical demands of your job.
Your arm lift incisions may take about 3 to 4 months to mature and take up to a year to soften and fade. Dr. Breister Ghosh will use her extensive training and knowledge to minimize the appearance of scarring.
How Much Will My Brachioplasty (Arm Lift) Cost?
